The State of Hawaii is committed to reducing the collective carbon footprint of everyone in the islands with the new Ebike rebate program. Putting more bikes on the road benefits everyone! The purpose of this act is to reduce the cost of living and cost of transportation by providing rebates for the purchase and use of electric bicycles and electric mopeds.

ACT 306, 2022 aims to increase the use of electric bicycles used in the islands. We all know just how congested traffic can get here and Honolulu has been listed in the past as one of the worst areas of the nation for traffic congestion. Trying to find parking in Waikiki or pretty much anywhere in central Honolulu? Be prepared to spend $$$ just for a simple errand and that's IF you can even find a spot. Driving a car in and around the city is becoming more and more unfeasible as associated costs climb and the number of vehicles on the roads remains high. We all feel the impacts of rising gas prices and it doesn't look like prices are going down any time soon.

E-bikes can change that. Humans have been riding bicycles for a little over two hundred years. E-bikes have become the latest must-have for anyone looking to reduce travel costs and they're here to stay. The benefits of an electric bike far surpass those of a traditional bicycle. The ability to travel further, faster, and without as much output from the rider is the single biggest thing to happen to bicycles since the pedal bike was invented. Our customers are confident that they can arrive to their destination in style, on time, and with energy to spare.

This rebate just might be the incentive you need to switch to electric. The bill offers a rebate for e-bike and electric moped sales. A special fund pays $500 or 20% off the cost, whichever is lower. Those who qualify have to either not have a registered 4-wheel vehicle, be enrolled in school, or show that they are eligible for low income benefits. Find out if you're eligible below!

Eligibility Requirements

- Current students - High School, College, and University students are all welcome!
- Do not own a traditional vehicle with four wheels - This means you do not have a car or truck currently registered in your name with the State of Hawaii.
- Low income - Check with the State to see if you qualify.

Any adult who meets any of the requirements above may apply for a rebate. This rebate covers all ebikes that have a speed of 28mph or lower and are purchased new. This also covers all electronic mopeds purchased new.

Do I have to meet all of the requirements?

Not at all! You are only required to meet one of the listed requirements.

How do I apply for my rebate?

We’re here to help. The Department of Transportation has all of the paperwork you’ll need for this. The most important thing for us to give you is the receipt, which you will need in order to be eligible for this rebate. The receipt must be signed and dated by us. This rebate does not apply to any used bikes and only applies to bikes purchased through a dealer.
